PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL) on Tuesday announced that $ 2 million in funding will be provided to METEC Resource Center in Peoria as part of the Healthy Home Production Grants program in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
According to a press release, the funding will be used to mitigate the impacts of substandard housing, preserve affordable housing and ensure that future generations can reach their full potential.
“Every family in our community deserves a safe and healthy home,” Bustos said. “I am pleased to announce that the METEC Resource Center in Peoria will receive $ 2 million in federal funding to address household safety concerns by preventing illness and injury in children. From reducing lead and mold to reducing radon and carbon monoxide, these resources will go a long way in protecting children and improving the quality of life for local families.
The Healthy Homes program aims to fight multiple childhood illnesses and injuries at home, as well as dangers such as mold, lead, allergens, asthma, carbon monoxide, pesticides and radon.
