FCC adds 3 companies to national security threat list

By Christopher Cole (March 25, 2022, 8:04 p.m. EDT) — The Federal Communications Commission on Friday named three more foreign companies to a list of telecommunications companies deemed to be at risk for U.S. networks.

The Russian company AO Kaspersky Lab, as well as China Telecom (Americas) Corp. and China Mobile International USA Inc., are now on the list, which was created under federal cybersecurity law three years ago. The FCC’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security added the three new entities to the “covered list” of threats.

Companies added to the list are deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States and are not eligible to receive federal grants for the deployment of communications services….
