Iiser urged to create alternative energy options and encourage sustainable living | Pune News

Pune: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has advised students of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune to address issues related to water management and garbage.
Pradhan laid the foundation stone for the new Department of Data Science and inaugurated the National Facility for Genetic Function in Health and Disease.
Pradhan said, “The work done at the institute has the potential to reach many more students across the country. Institute members should explore ways to create alternative energy options and instill an awareness of sustainable living among students for future generations. We also need to encourage sports participation among students at the same level as we do for academics. Pradhan also visited the PARAM Brahma supercomputer at the institute.
Established with funding from the Department of Biotechnology, the purpose of establishing the National Facility for Gene Function in Health and Disease is to create knockout and transgenic animal models in India.
The facility has over 50 clean rooms and 30 service rooms and houses mice, rats, and rabbits maintained in a specific pathogen-free state to prevent interference with research goals.
The Dean of Research and Development at IISER, Pune, Anjan Banerjee, said, “More than 10 research groups are currently using the facilities at IISER Pune and providing services to TIFR, Ministry of Ayush, SPPU and NCL, Pune. The creation and maintenance of the installation requires training. The training of students and other researchers is continuous and the institution invests time and energy in it. »
