Legends Run for Cancer raises nearly $24,000 for South Central Cancer Resource – PembinaValleyOnline.com

Despite high gas prices, Legends Car Club members hit the road in May to raise money for the South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR).

The Club’s annual Cancer Race took place in two stages this year.

On May 21, Club members braved the inclement weather to gather in Winkler for a hot dog sale that drew a large following.

A cruise on May 28 took drivers to Winkler, Carman, Miami, Morden Nurseries, and then to Altona for a barbecue.

Donations and pledges from both events totaled approximately $24,000. Since 2011, Legends has raised over $182,000 for Cancer Resource.

SCCR project coordinator Erika Friesen says the auto club has done an amazing job with their annual fundraiser, with 100% of the money raised going to the nonprofit.

The Morden-based organization supports clients and families in the South Central region throughout their battle with cancer. Supports offered include financial assistance, transportation, accommodation, wigs/head coverings, a lymphedema program, skin screening clinics, and health and wellness programs.

The SCCR relies entirely on community donations to operate, Friesen said, with much of it coming from the Car Club.
