Gulf Bend Center will help residents build crisis kits
VICTORIA, Texas – Gulf Bend Center, in conjunction with local agencies, will host a “Build Your Own Crisis Kit Event” from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, August 4 at 6502 Nursery Drive, Room 242. Gulf Bend customers and Their carers will have the chance to meet officers from the Victoria Police Service and discuss their needs at this free event.
The event will provide information and resources for autistic and/or mentally challenged residents and their caregivers. Residents will also have the option of signing up for the VPD notification system. Through this system, police officers will receive information about a person’s disability and behavior when dispatched to a registered person’s home. The notification will also inform officers of any other information residents wish to provide.
Gulf Bend Center will help residents build crisis kits. The kits will include a resource pack, first aid kit, fidget toys and other items that may be helpful to someone in mental health crisis.
Other local agencies will also be available to share information and resources at the event.
The Victoria Police Service has partnered with Gulf Bend in the past to provide specialist care for residents with unique mental health needs. The Guld Bend Center funds two mental health officer positions within the department. VPD has also partnered with the Crossroads Autism Network on a similar program.
Residents must register in advance at https://gulfbendcentercrisiskitevent.eventbrite.com. Caregivers simply register the person with autism or intellectual disability.
