Grapevine Family and Community Resource Center executive director Melissa Gallagher calls a $ 42,000 grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation a “renewed investment” in the staff of the Grapevine.

“The staff are sort of in the foreground right now,” said Gallagher. “It still is, but it’s an opportunity for us to really invest a lot in our people – they’re amazing, and it’s really important to me as a manager here that we really keep our spirits up.”

The goal, according to Gallagher, is to uplift every member of the Grapevine staff in one way or another, through professional development, training and compensation.

The grant itself is imperative according to Gallagher, both in terms of funding and use.

“We knew we were being considered for this and we expected something, but we just didn’t know what it would look like exactly,” said Gallagher. “So we were really thrilled when we found out that for us, a small non-profit organization, this is a big grant. “

The grant is meant to last for two years, or $ 21,000 for each year, but all of it was offered in advance to the nonprofit, according to Gallagher.

“What’s really good about the charitable foundation – I think they believe we’re the experts and we know our community,” Gallagher said. “And they trust us to invest when needed. “

The grant is intended to fund operations, which Gallagher says is not common.

“Most of the grants we receive are primarily or exclusively intended to support programs,” she said. “Which is wonderful – and having discretionary funding that can be used for other purposes is really important. Obviously, you cannot run programs unless you have the staff, facilities, and equipment to run those programs.

Most importantly, said Gallagher, the grant will help further the Grapevine’s mission: “to promote the health and well-being of families and communities through support, education and the sharing of resources.”

Gallagher said as the holidays approach, the association’s mission is more important than ever. Grapevine will be available to help families who need help with the holidays, in the form of gifts for the children, food or other needs for the holidays and in cold weather.
