NexusBC Community Resource Center in Vernon will help people pay their taxes for free – Vernon News

Help with your taxes

The NexusBC Community Resource Center in Vernon is once again offering to help people with their taxes.

A free tax clinic is offered to eligible adults 60 and older, and this year the funding was provided in part by the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program.

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is administered by NexusBC and applicants must meet certain requirements.

“This year, we are very grateful to receive funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program,” said Kelly Johnson, CEO of NexusBC. “It allows us to advertise, pay for volunteer training, and buy supplies and equipment.”

NexusBC will schedule tax collection appointments from March 7 to April 21.

It is important to note that this is a drop off and pick up service.

For this free service, the maximum income level is $30,000 for a single person and $40,000 for a combined income for a couple.

Volunteers cannot prepare tax returns for individuals reporting interest income over $1,000 and/or capital gains/losses and/or employment and/or self-employment expenses. They also cannot make returns for deceased or bankrupt persons.

Seniors are reminded to file their taxes on time so that their Guaranteed Income Supplement and GST benefits are automatically renewed.

To schedule a tax appointment, call 250-545-0585.
