Non-profit energy resource center opens new office in Sterling – Sterling Journal-Advocate

A nonprofit focused on home energy efficiency with four Colorado locations is moving to Sterling.

Logan County Economic Development Corp announced on Monday the arrival of the Energy Resource Center (ERC) in its new offices at 601 S. 10th Ave.

The Energy Resource Center, which also has offices in Loveland, Denver, Colorado Springs and Alamosa, serves 26,134 square miles in 27 counties. Since 1979, they have helped thousands of Colorado families keep their homes safe, warm and energy efficient. The ERC provides energy audits and retrofits at no cost to income-eligible households, supported by fee-based services as well as federal and state funding and grants.

According to the LCEDC, the ERC began discussions about establishing a new location in northeastern Colorado in April 2021. After connecting with LCEDC director Trae Miller through mutual contact, the ERC began exploring location options to determine the right solution for the new office. After several months of work to determine the best community to install the new facility, in December 2021 ERC made the decision to move to Sterling.

Commenting on the decision, Howard Brooks, CEO of ERC, said: “(Trae’s) enthusiasm and hard work were among the deciding factors in our choice of Sterling. We are impressed with (his) advocacy and willingness to help us create these local jobs for your community. We are delighted that young people in your region have the potential to have a whole career in the field of energy efficiency ahead of them. These are the professions of today and tomorrow. »

After choosing Sterling, ERC faced the next big challenge of finding a suitable facility on which to base its operations. Following site visits organized by the LCEDC in February, an ideal location was identified and secured for a long-term lease. ERC took possession of the new office space on S. 10th Avenue on May 1.

The next step in opening the ERC office is to hire service technicians. According to the ERC website,, “ERC’s newest location in Sterling, CO will be open for business on July 1, 2022! This new facility will cover weatherization in rural northeast Colorado counties. We are currently recruiting new staff and seeking customer applications. Miller said he sees the opening of the local office as a benefit that will go beyond Logan County.

“The (ERC) will be a great resource for the entire North East region,” he said. We are delighted that they chose Sterling for the regional base. The employment opportunities and the services offered will be a great advantage for the region.

The ERC is actively recruiting for an Office Guest Intake Specialist, HVAC Technicians and Weatherization Technicians.
